Code of Conduct
We are committed to creating a race environment that is inclusive and welcoming for everyone. Our events are built on a foundation of a shared love of the outdoors, and every participant, volunteer, and crew member deserves to feel safe and respected.
Expected Conduct
To uphold this standard, all individuals involved in our races - runners, volunteers, crew, and spectators - are expected to conduct themselves with integrity and respect toward others at all times. This includes:
- Treating others with kindness and courtesy, both on and off the course.
- Refraining from any behaviour that could reasonably be interpreted as:
- Sexual in nature
- Discriminatory (e.g., comments or actions based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, or disability)
- Harassing, threatening, or abusive - verbally or physically
- Unwelcome or inappropriate in any context
- Promotional or recruiting in nature for political, religious, or other affiliated organizations
- Please note: Our events are non-partisan and unaffiliated with any political, religious, or advocacy groups. Participants may not use the event space to promote, endorse, or recruit for any such organizations.
Examples of unacceptable behaviour include, but are not limited to:
- Inappropriate or suggestive remarks
- Offensive commentary or attempting to make a joke (that’s only funny to you) about someone else's appearance, ability or physical form (positive or negative)
- Physical intimidation or aggression (including yelling at people, swearing at people or demanding others to get out of your way)
- Demeaning language or conduct
Consequences of Unacceptable Behaviour
We enforce a two-strike policy for repeated misconduct:
- First Strike: Disqualification from the current race and a formal warning with no return of funds
- Second Strike: Permanent ban from all future CMTR races
However, we reserve the right to issue an immediate ban for any behaviour deemed egregious, threatening, or harmful to others or the integrity of the event.
Reporting & Accountability
If you witness or experience unacceptable behaviour, please report it to race officials or staff immediately or email run@trailrunning.ca. All reports will be taken seriously and handled with discretion.
