2020 Whistler Half Marathon, presented by Smartwool cancelled.
As I write this note to you from self-isolation, I hope that it finds you, your family, and your loved ones healthy. I am immensely disappointed to announce that the 10th annual Whistler Half Marathon presented by Smartwool is cancelled due to the ongoing and growing threat that COVID-19 posses to us all.
While the event is still over 2 months away, I feel this cancellation is in the best interest of all involved. Making this difficult decision now, allows us the greatest opportunity to be flexible and to ensure we are able to support our participants, crew, partners, suppliers, community, and our non-profit society. There is no one that is not impacted by this global pandemic.
I can appreciate how disappointed many athletes are with the need for events to cancel. We share in that disappointment and really wanted nothing more than to have you with us as we celebrated our 10th edition of the runs.
I am proud of our team who, alongside our partners at Smartwool and Race Roster, have put much thought into creating cancellation options suitable for all athletes. I hope you feel well supported no matter how you plan to manage your own registration fee. You have until April 17 to choose the course of action that best suits your needs.

OPTION 1: DONATE your registration fee to our new Community Recovery Fund. NOTE: BlueShore Financial will match run registration donations up to the first $3,000. Donate knowing that your donation will go twice as far.
One significant fallout of this crisis is the unimaginable job loss and financial crunch many families in the Sea to Sky Corridor and around the world will experience in the months ahead. We are focused on trying to help those people in our community who are most vulnerable and to ensure some of them will get food on the table for their families. 100% of your registration fee will go into this fund. Please note that as a non-profit society (not a Canadian registered charity) we are unable to issue charitable donation receipts. In addition you will receive a unique promotional code for 20% off from Smartwool for a future purchase from their Canadian online store for choosing this option. Instructions on how to receive your code will be emailed to you shortly after the decision-making period has closed on April 17th.
OPTION 2: DEFER your registration to the 2021 event. Secure your spot at the start line for the 2021 Whistler Half Marathon, presented by Smartwool. Should pricing change in the year ahead you are not subject to increases. You will receive a registration code late in 2020 to use when registering for the 2021 event. In addition you will receive a unique promotional code for 20% off from Smartwool for a future purchase from their Canadian online store for choosing this option. Instructions on how to receive your code will be emailed to you shortly after the decision-making period has closed on April 17th.
OPTION 3: DEFER your registration to the 2022 event. Same conditions as if you defer to 2021. You will receive a registration code late in 2021 to use when registering for the 2022 event. You will also receive a unique promotional code for 20% off from Smartwool for a future purchase from their Canadian online store for choosing this option. Instructions on how to receive your code will be emailed to you shortly after the decision-making period has closed on April 17th.
OPTION 4: REFUND of your registration fee and GST, less processing fees paid. (Note 15% administration fee applies). Refund requests will be processed after the closing date for making your decision, and will placed back on the form of payment used when registering. You should expect to see this refund processed by April 30th.
Should you not act and tell us how you would like to have your registration fee handled, our team will automatically defer you to the 2021 event.
