Traffic Information

Picture
With an event the size and scope of The Whistler Half Marathon, minor traffic interruptions are unavoidable.  We thank the community for your patience while we run our event, and hope that you get out and cheer on the athletes.  All consideration for access to homes and businesses have been considered and full road and lane closures have been designed to be as short as possible, for minimal impact.

As the race course does cover vast amounts of municipal roadway as well as the valley trail system, please be aware that racers can be encountered anywhere along the route between 7:30am and noon on Saturday June 1st.  Be sure to also see our traffic advisories in Pique Newsmagazine on May 23 and 30, 2019, and listen on Mountain FM May 27 - June 1.

On the Whistler Road network (course map)

Traffic to and from the following neighbourhoods will experience delays due to the race progression:

Whistler Village, Nesters, Whistler Cay, Tapley’s Farm, Blueberry Hill, Alta Vista

The majority of traffic impacts will occur on collector-type streets which carry local traffic to and from Highway 99.  These streets include:

Lorimer Road (see Closures below)
Crabapple Drive (see Closures below)
Blueberry Drive (see temporary traffic delays below)
Archibald Way  (see temporary traffic delays below)
St Anton Way  (see temporary traffic delays below)
Blackcomb Way West (see temporary traffic delays below)

Expected Road and Lane CLOSURES
Highway 99 at Lorimer Road CLOSED 7:30am to 7:40am and 7:50am to 8:05am
Lorimer Road CLOSED to westbound traffic west of highway 99 7:30am to 8:20am
Crabapple Drive and Beaver Lane CLOSED to Southbound traffic 7:30am to 8:10am

Temporary (stop and go) traffic delays
Please plan for extra time when travelling on affected roads between 7:30am and noon as runners proceed along the race route.  Please obey traffic control personnel and course marshals at all times.  Traffic control personnel will hold vehicular traffic while runners are on the course, and will allow vehicles to cross the race route when it is clear of athletes.  For specific times which each neighbourhood is affected, please refer to the “Special Traffic and Transit Advisory” posted below.

Transit Routes (course map)

Route 7 (tapleys connector)  expect the 7:25am and 8:00am departures from the Gondola transit exchange to be affected, and possibly cancelled.  The most up to date information regarding schedule changes can be found posted at bus stops along the route.  Minor delays can be expected along the route until noon.

Routes 30/31 North from the Village and South from Emerald can expect minor delays along the route, particularly in and around Nesters, Spruce Grove, White Gold, and Whistler Village between 7:30 and noon.
